About the Student Placement Program

As a pioneer in digital mental health training, our specifically designed Student Placement Program focuses on supporting you in gaining confidence and competence as a clinician.You will work with a diverse range of clients from around Australia through internet - delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT).Working at MindSpot provides significant development opportunities and a highly supportive environment to develop clinical knowledge, skills and experience.All of our training is valuable for aspiring clinicians planning a career in both digital or face - to - face clinical services, equipping you to work with a wide range of presentations.

It is an environment where I have felt very supported in developing my skills as a therapist, with on-site supervision being a very unique and useful resource.

As part of your placement you will:

    • Be on the front line of the clinic; conducting clinical assessments, writing brief reports, providing referrals and providing treatment for people across the country.
    • Work with large numbers of patients, building your clinical experience and confidence in a short space of time.
    • Work with people with a broad range of clinical needs and difficulties, gain experience integrating theory into real-world practice.

As part of your ongoing training you will:

    • Have the opportunity for regular learning opportunities via group supervision, clinical workshops and consultation with senior clinicians
    • Be supervised by high-quality, senior clinicians with more than five years’ experience in CBT and digital mental health
    • Receive in-depth training in risk and gain experience and training in risk assessment and management and build experience in delivering CBT, effectively, with patients through one or more proven, structured, digital mental health treatments.

About you

Our placement is ideally suited to students completing placements as part of their Master of Clinical Psychology degree. You will have some placement experience during your studies and wish to experience a role within a diverse, experienced and supportive environment, while working as an integral part of the clinical team.

In 2020, MindSpot opened a new clinic based at Northbridge in Perth. The clinic is set to serve our WA consumers and link in with both our MindSpot and PORTS services. We will be offering MindSpot Academy training in Perth, in the near future.

FAQs

MindSpot is a pioneer in digital mental-health training. Our placement is ideally suited to Master of Clinical Psychology students who have some experience in using micro-counselling skills and theoretical knowledge of CBT; however are new to delivering CBT and wish to improve their clinical confidence and competence.
Yes. Since 2019, the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) has recognised placements in digital mental health in the Master of Clinical Psychology program.
Students are supervised by one of our board-approved clinical psychologists.
The Student Placement learning pathway offers 28 supervision hours with 14 hours of individual supervision for a 14-week placement.

How do I apply?

Entry to the registration learning pathway is dependent on gaining employment with MindSpot. Our capacity to provide supervision and training is limited so this is a competitive process based on merit.
